The Northeast in general and Manipur, in particular, has been in the throes of a violent
conflict in recent times. The momentum gained by the Naga political movement in the state
has revived and intensified strife between the Nagas and the Meiteis. The conflict can be
understood in the context of territorial claims postulated by both the Nagas and the Meiteis in
their construction of separate ‘nation states’.
