Description
This is a brief research paper on the consonant phonemes of Burmese language. Burmese has at least 44 consonants, and 45 consonants if the glottal stop is counted.
Basic consonants: k, kh, g, gh, ng, s, hs, z, zh, ny, tt, tth, dd, ddh, nn, t, ht, d, dh, n, p, ph, b, bh, m, y, r, l, w, th (θ), h, ll, a (ʔ). [33 consoants]
As you see, the glottal stop /ʔ/ (written <အ>) is not a vowel, but a consonant.
Others: th (ð), ky, ch, gy. sh, hng, hny, hnn, hn, hm, hl, and hw. [12 consonants]
Notice that there are two phonemes /θ/ and /ð)/ with the same spelling <သ>.
